1. According to you, how do you define extreme music? By the athmosphere? The technic? The rythm?!
Adam: Hi there. I think extreme music should be any music that is made in any style or any genre - the musician needs to be extreme in his/her approach to playing and performing - or the music will suffer!..
2. Do you think that only extreme people can play of the extreme music?
Hmmmm, can only heavy people play heavy music?...or fat people only play fat riffs?..I don't think i am qualified to answer that!..I think everyone should do what ever they want all the time...You are asking the wrong band about what they think of others - The Ram Family couldn't care less what anyone else is doing - but we know what we are doing!..
3. But you, when you listen to the album of a band, you don't feel the need to know the musicians, humanly, to see if their music is sincere?
Adam: I think you can learn a lot about the people behind the music by listening to the music - if you want to... sincerity is obvious in music and can bee seen and heard miles away!...It is only occasionaly that i like a bands music so much that i feel i need to know the people involved...but i understand what you mean...sometimes the music on its own is not enough to excite all the senses to the level of exitement the band have awoken in the listener...the beginings of fanatisism...dangerous stuff if applied to things other than art and music!..
4. The artwork from the Chapman Brothers is... creepy but their artistic research of the controversy is really interesting. Do you think it's still possible to be shocking, artistically, nowadays?
Clearly!..A lot of people have exclaimed shock and horror at our new album artwork...If it wasn't possible to be shocking artistically, Jake and Dinos Chapman would be out of work man!!.. Having said that, very few living artists are truly capable of achieving this. The 1st time I saw 'Fucking Hell' in a gallery setting I immediately exclaimed out loud "fucking hell"...I was not alone in this reaction!...when you see the extent of the grim horror and the level of detail and fanatical excecution it makes you think about how extreme the vision and the passion to unsettle and shock the viewer is..fantastic!
5. Taking drugs has an influence on your songwriting process?
We are always stoned whether or not we are operating in RamWorld.I like to use hallucinatory drugs and rituals, but they are a part of life which i like to write and conjur imagery from rather than a state i have to get into to make music or write spells and lyrics or to peel off endless grim riffs...songwriting is just one big evolutionary process that we have long since accepted and never fuck with!..we deal in sonic and atmospheric inevitability whose course cannot and will not be changed.
6. Do you think that taking drugs by the auditor can help to better appreciate/understand "Take The Curse"? According to you, what are the ideal conditions for listening to your album?
Well the last thing we want to do is tell anyone what to do (apart from a few cunts who should hang themselves asap). The listener should enjoy the experience as much as possible - which is why we have presented very costly artwork that will take the entire playing of the album to appreciate..you have a visual guide to the music if you want to take that trip...I think you could do alot worse than have a couple of proper bongs of say, i dont know, Kali Mist bud and let The Ram Family do the rest of the work....
7. You use the term "The Ram Family": Can you explain the link that you joined? You had already felt this osmosis in your previous bands, including Electric Wizard, Lord Of Putrefaction, Spirmyard, Hexed?
The Ram Family is a nod to Pentagram who call themselves the same..but we are like an insular family unit who enjoy keeping ourselves to ourselves...we dont have anything to do with EW and couldnt care less what they are up to...(spirmyard was a really interesting band but only released cassette demos - and as a result no one has really heard that band - but it is the missing link between EW and RamSS in a way..recently a freind heard it and couldnt believe its not available on vinyl!?..same with Hexed - I put alot of work - 1999-2003 - into that band - but only hand-made 10 copies of CDR demo - then lost the master!!...which has recently been returned to me - hadnt heard it for 8 years!!...maybe should get them out sometime..if there is any interest?...)
8. What do you think about the label Rise Above Records?
Who cares?..We love Ritual Productions our new home - they are the coolest label we know of and are brilliant to work with..because the labe was created for us.
9. Concerning Ritual Productions, you can tell us more please? There is little information on this label...
Ritual Rule!..our management have started this label to release RamSS and other bands material...we can work at our own schedule now which is The Only Way for us...we work in RamTime and dont want to fit into others' schedules which helps to shatter the world we work so hard to create and live in...Ritual is our home and we are very happy at home!...
10. What were your sources of inspiration for the album 'Possessed by The Rise of Magik'? What do you think is the main difference between your full-length “Take the Curse” and 'Possessed by The Rise of Magik'?
There are even more quiet moments on Possessed than on Curse - quite a few tracks with 'pedals off' - we were solidly listening to Cream before and during recording Possessed - which was a deliberate move by us to let that loose sound and vibe rub off on our new material...but Possessed also packs our heaviest riffs so far!!!!!...dark and light are visable.....trk titles include: 15min title track, 'Safety in Numbness', 'Plague Beak' and 'Sol Nocivo' - both of which we have been playing on tour...Possessed is the natural continuation from Curse...there are songs on the new record that are older than some tracks on Curse - this happens every time we record - tracks that were originally planned for 1 lp end up on the next one..or the next ep...I really like that- it adds a wierd continuity and links the spells, fables, incantations and lyrics in a drifting, other-worldy way...The Way of The Ram!...
11. What memories do you keep on your recent tour in France and Spain? Anecdotes to tell, perhaps? What are the bands who impressed you the most on this tour?
The tour was great! - we were blown away by the crowds and enthusiasm - it was the 1st time we headed to southern europe and was particularly fun to play in Spain....The French ALWAYS blow us away when we play there - We love it! - Paris was sold out weeks before and was particularly incendiary!.. Eibon and Gloria Belli were amazing!!...the 2 best French bands we have played with so far...Spain was great as we got to play wirth my fave Spanish bands: Moho (we played with them before in London with Church of Misery), Lords of Bukkake, and Warketype - all amazing bands and an honour to play with...My absolute fave Spanish band are Orthodox - but we played with them recently at Italian festival - they were great! This was our 1st Euro tour on our own as headlining band and it was killer!!... nice to have a whole tour bus to ourselves too!..cant wait to go back to France and Spain again!!... Doom on Man and Keep up The Grim Work!
